CLUB HISTORY
Established in March
of 1924, Clube Atletico Paranaense originated from the fusion of two
traditional clubs in Curitiba – America and Internacional. From
America, Atletico inherited the color red, and from Internacional, America
inherited the color black. The explosive combination of red and black soon represented the passion that
the people of Curitiba felt for team, their city, and their state.
In 1949, Atletico put together an unforgettable team, which destructed its
opponents and conquered memorable titles. The team was considered the best
in the history of the state in such a short time that the nickname
“Hurricane” was placed on the team.
In the 80’s,
Atletico won many titles and was often among the best 3 clubs in all of
Brazil. In 1995, the club took a turn for the better as it
modernized its emblem, demolished its old stadium, and launched a campaign
that reinforced the pride of the Atletico supporters. During the late
90’s, Atletico constructed its state-of-the-art training center and
started to showcase players with great ability. Atletico also constructed
“The Arena”, the most modern soccer stadium of Latin America. The stadium
is also known as “The Big Cauldron”. Now Atletico could forever be
included among the largest soccer clubs of Brazil.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Atlético Paranaense allocates a large amount of resources towards
the development of their young players, since they are the future of their
team.
Atletico has developed and perfected its training scheme with its players
for years. As soon as players arrive at the club, they begin the
intensive training regimen at the Training Center where they receive
technical, tactical, physical personal training and medical assistance.
The
club trains about 100 players from the ages 12 – 19 years old daily.
The majority of those players live at the Training Center where
they receive room and board as well as educational classes.
This work brings
excellent results, as many of their youth players have been called to the
Brazilian National Team. CAP youth teams have won titles such as:
Metropolitan City Champions – 1995, 1997 (U17)
Belo Horizonte Cup Champions – 1996 (U17)

CLUB HISTORY
Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was founded on
January 2, 1921, by the Italian immigrants who came to Belo Horizonte. The
club's first name was Societa Esportiva Palestra Italia and it's colors
were white, green, and red representing the Italian flag. Up until 1924,
only Italian immigrants were allowed to play on the team. The club's
social members largely consisted of working class people who came
to Brazil to help construct the capital city of Minas Gerais. In January
of 1942, at the height of WWII, the Brazilian Federal government
prohibited any club from associating with any country that was an ally to
Germany, which forced the team to change its name and colors. In
October 1942, Cruziero Esporte Clube was born under the celestial five
star constellation bearing the colors of blue and white. Since its
inception Cruzeiro has developed into one of the largest Brazilian clubs
not only in terms of structure but also in terms of worldwide
championships. Cruzeiro has the biggest fan base in the state of Minas
Gerais and is one of the top ranking clubs in the country.
